Lennox Dolphins remember teammate Rogers

Lennox Head Dolphins rugby league players gathered at the local hotel on January 7 to hold a wake for their former teammate, Steve Rogers.

Rogers, a former Australian, New South Wales, Cronulla and St George star, had been found dead at his home days earlier. His family announced after his death that he had been suffering depression.

Rogers was a former licensee of the Lennox Point Hotel, and, despite having retired from league, made a comeback to play a few games for the Dolphins in 1990.

He was popular with the players, with Lennox Dolphins stalwart John Archibald saying: “He was just one of the boys.”

Rogers’ sons, Mat and Don, were ballboys for the Dolphins when their father played.

Rogers scored two tries and kicked four goals in his appearances with the Dolphins.
