Christmas Light-Up a record
A record number of Ballina Shire residents ‘lit up’ over Christmas, with 118 residential entrants and 16 business entrants in the 2005 Christmas Light Up promotion.
A report to Ballina Shire Council put the increase down to a review of the promotion following complaints that it had become too competitive, reducing the ‘true spirit’ of the promotion.
The council moved away from the competition-based format, and last Christmas all entrants went into a draw for prizes.
The council is looking at further improvements for the 2006 promotion, hoping to generate more exposure for sponsors and supporters. This could be done by way of a barbecue-type event for the prize draw, attended by sponsors, supporters and entrants.
