Games fever set to ignite

Ballina Shire will get an early taste of Commonwealth Games fever when the Queen’s Baton Relay arrives on January 30.

The baton will travel from Coffs Harbour through Casino, Lismore and Alstonville and then on to Ballina on day six of its journey around the nation.

Ballina Shire Council has organised an official ceremony, which will include special guests and performances, starting at 4pm. Early activities will begin at Fawcett Park from 2pm. The activities include:

Commonwealth Games merchandising: An official Commonwealth Games merchandising van will be on site selling all Games memorabilia.National Australia Bank: Will be providing all the volunteers on the evening and will have a marquee for marketing on site.

Telstra: Will have the Big Pond trailer containing five computers providing access to the internet via a built-in satellite. Telstra will also have a Fun Zone for the kids with face painting, Grant Hackett cut-outs, hand wavers and a Team Telstra Ambassador signing autographs.

Cadburys: Will set up a photograph stand where you can have your photo taken with Freddo Frog.

Big Screen: A big screen of 15 square metres will allow everyone to see the celebrations as they unfold.
