Ballina Bears brothers to play in Imparja cricket Cup
Two members of the Ballina Bears Cricket Club will represent New South Wales in the annual national Indigenous cricket championship, the Imparja Cup.
Brothers Andrew and Adam Gordon will compete against the nation’s best Indigenous cricketers in the Imparja Cup, which will be held at Alice Springs from February 22-26.
Andrew Gordon will be competing in his third Cup, while it will be Adam’s first time at the championship. Another local cricketer, Dave Kapeen, who plays with the Tintenbar-East Ballina club and is instrumental in developing Aboriginal participation in local cricket competitions, has umpired at the Cup.
Indigenous involvement in cricket is growing in the Northern Territory. As well as the Imparja Cup, there will be community carnivals such as the Never Never Cup at Mataranka in May, the Dingo Cup at Timber Creek in October, the Larrakia Cup in Darwin in October, the Barra Cup at Booroloola in November and the Nitmiluk Cup at Katherine in Decembe.
