Where they’re biting around Ballina, Lennox Head
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly report on where they’re biting …
Mandy at Dave’s Bait Shop says the beaches are fishing fairly well early and late in the day for some fairly consistent tailor on blue pilchards and metal lures and some nice bream on cut bait, pipis and worms.
The mouth of the Richmond River has produced some decent flathead on live bait, cut bait and lures and some nice whiting on worms and yabbies.
The odd jewfish or two around the 15kg mark has come from the north and south walls on mullet, squid and soft plastic lures, with live bait coming into its own after dark.
Mud crabs are still going OK in the river with the best spots now upstream of Emigrant Creek and in Emigrant Creek itself.
The odd Spanish mackerel has been biting off Lennox Point but nothing much reported from the Riordans Reef area this week, Mandy says. Still some nice snapper, pearl perch and mixed bags from the wider reefs.
