Wollongbar speed limit reduced
Ballina to Lismore commuters beware: The 100km/h zone of the busy Bruxner Highway now ends at Alstonville. And the speed camera limit at Wollongbar has been reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.
The former 100km/h zone from Wollongbar to almost the Alphadale Crossroads is now an 80km/h zone, thanks to the campaigning of Wollongbar grandmother Leila Packham.
Member for Ballina Don Page said: “Mrs Packham died in April last year after being hit by a car while trying to cross the Bruxner Highway outside her Wollongbar home.
“Mrs Packham had been campaigning for five years to have the 80km/h zone at Wollongbar extended.
“It’s terribly sad to think it took this tragedy to have the speed limit reduced. But in saying that, I am pleased the RTA took notice of the request from Packham family and the hundreds of people who signed a petition to see the speed limit reduced.
“Reducing the speed limit will improve safety for the residents who live along that area of the Bruxner Highway, as well as the motorists who use the road.”
