Ballina to get extra youth crisis accommodation
Member for Ballina Don Page has announced that Ballina Shire will receive additional crisis accommodation to provide housing for homeless young people.
Mr Page said North Coast Community Housing had been allocated two two-bedroom units or townhouses under the 2005/06 Crisis Accommodation Program.
“These two residences will provide important and much-needed crisis or transitional accommodation for homeless young people in the Ballina Shire,” Mr Page said.
“These two residences will add to the existing crisis accommodation available in the area and will be located close to services such as transport and health care.
“In addition, support services for tenants will be provided in partnership with the Ballina and District Community Services Association.”
Mr Page said this accommodation provided vital help to young people who would otherwise be living on the streets.
“It’s a sad fact that there are young people in our community who are without a roof over their heads,” Mr Page said.
“Through this crisis accommodation, young homeless people can receive the assistance they need in a supportive environment.”
