Where they’re biting around Ballina, Lennox Head
New South Wales Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report …
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says whiting are starting to reappear a little further upstream, with some fair catches from around Keith Hall to Pimlico.
Flathead of various sizes are going OK around the Porpoise Wall and upstream at least as far as the ferry. A lot of little bream in the river and a few better ones if you can get past those little tackers.
Mud crabs are going fairly well in North Creek and Emigrant Creek.
Jewies have been a bit slow of late with not much worth mentioning.
Some good tailor from the northern beaches like Angels and Sharps and most headlands, with fish nudging 3kg at times. Flat Rock should be a good weekend bet for a tailor but you’ best get there early.
Offshore there haven’t been too many mackerel but plenty of cobia, especially up north around Lennox Head. General mixed bags on the wider reefs haven’t been sensational but you should get a feed.
