Ballina’s rugby league season kicks off on March 11

Ballina Seagulls Rugby League Club will kick off the 2006 Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League season with a trial match on March 11 against Tweed Coast Raiders at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

The match will be one of two rounds of trials organised by the NRRRL. In round two on March 18, Ballina will travel to Maclean to take on Lower Clarence.

The trials will be played by senior squads of 20 players, and Under-18 teams. Matches will be played over 20-minute quarters for first grade and 15-minute quarters for Under-18s.

The two rounds of trials will feature some good old-fashioned local derbies. South Grafton and Lower Clarence meet in round one, Grafton Ghosts and South Grafton clash in round two, and Casino and Kyogle will meet in round two.

And Mullumbimby and Marist Brothers, grand finalists in 2004, will meet in round two.
