Commonwealth Games honour for Adam Pine
Former Ballina resident Adam Pine will recite the athletes’ oath at the March 15 opening of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
The honour caps a great career for Pine, who will swim at his fourth Commonwealth Games.
Pine, 29, who now lives in Canberra, gained selection by winning the 100m butterfly in the Games trials on February 3.
More than 6000 people will be involved in the Opening and Closing ceremonies, with thousands of volunteers set to play a part on Australia’s most famous playing field, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Pine will be appearing before a television audience of millions of people around the world. TV coverage is on Channel Nine from 7.30pm.
Pine, who was an Australian Olympic representative at the Sydney Games in 2000, has two bronze medals and a silver to show for his three previous Commonwealth Games.
