Ballina gets $300,000 for roadworks
Ballina Shire Council will be allocated $300,000 to fix road black spots.
Federal Nationals Member for Page Ian Causley said the Page electorate would receive $1,671,000 from the Australian Government to improve safety on our local roads.
Mr Causley said the funding was part of the AusLink Black Spot Programme for the 2006-07 financial year and was specifically for black spot road safety improvements.
Projects include roadworks in the Lismore, Ballina and Kyogle Council areas. Mr Causley said the funding was just one part of a co-operative effort between various authorities to reduce the national road toll.
Ballina Shire Council will receive $300,000 for two black spot projects in Ballina. The first is to install a two-lane roundabout at the corner of Moon and Fox streets. The second will see the installation of a median strip and blisters along Bentinck Street.
Mr Causley said that in recognition of its success, the Australian Government had extended the Black Spot Programme for a further two years from 2006-07 to 2007-08 at a cost of $90 million. During this period, an evaluation of the AusLink Black Spot Programme will be carried out by the Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics which will update the research it carried out in 2001.
