NSW police officers walk the Kokoda Track for charity

Twenty-four New South Wales police officers are set to experience an ANZAC Day with a difference.

The officers leave this week for Papua New Guinea, ahead of their walk on the Kokoda Track to raise money for charity.

The walk aims to raise awareness of NSW Police Legacy, which is a charity designed to support the families of deceased police officers. The venture has the full support of NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney, who is the patron of Police Legacy.

The serving policemen and women will be joined on the trek by six legatees, aged 18 to 21, who have lost a police officer parent.

They hope to arrive at Port Moresby in time for Anzac Day commemorations on April 25.

The group will attend the Dawn Service at the Bomana War Cemetery in full uniform. Participants will lay wreaths at the memorial on behalf of NSW Police and NSW Police Legacy.

NSW Police says the expedition ‘will honour the heroics and contribution of police and defence force personnel alike and provide a challenging lifetime experience to the legatees and officers involved’.

The walk is a fundraising event for NSW Police Legacy, and as such, all monies raised will go wholly to the Police Legacy fund. NSW Police says all police participants have funded their own trek experience.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to NSW Police Legacy can call (02) 9212 7611.
