Three Ballina schools get Federal grants

Three Ballina schools are among eight local schools in the Page electorate which will share in a total of $458,700 in Australian Government Investing in Our Schools Capital Infrastructure funding.

Federal Nationals Member for Page Ian Causley announced the funding, saying that the eight local independent schools will use the grants for projects that are important for their particular school.

“These grants will be used for small capital infrastructure projects which all too often have to be put on the backburner. It is important we provide schools with facilities that enhance the education and well-being of students,” Mr Causley said.

The Ballina schools to receive the funding are:

  • Richmond Christian College, Ballina, will receive $63,700 for the refurbishment of the student amenities block including the provision of extra toilets.
  • Emmanuel Anglican College, Ballina, will receive $54,000 for the construction of a roof to cover the existing quadrangle area.
  • Biala Special School, Ballina, will receive $44,400 to install five activity panels, two inclusive swings, surrounding softfall area and shade cover.

The other schools to receive the funding are:

  • Tuntable Falls Community Primary School (via Nimbin) will receive $66,600 to install an efficient hot water cylinder; install new soccer goals and play area; upgrade the school’s power supply; improve library resources; install shade equipment; and purchase two sheds for maintenance equipment.
  • Blue Hills College, Goonellabah, will receive $70,000 for the installation of a fume cupboard; biology microscopes; refurbishment of the music room and purchase of instruments; and purchase of art, reading and numeracy tools.
  • Summerland Christian College, Goonellabah, will receive $20,000 to install air-conditioning in parts of the school.
  • Clarence Valley Anglican School will receive $70,000 for the construction of a shade area; books and resources for the library; playground equipment; and computers.
  • Rainbow Ridge School for Steiner Education, Lillian Rock, will receive $70,000 to install a grid-interactive solar power system.

Mr Causley said: “The Australian Government has committed $1 billion to the Investing in our Schools program. Of the $1 billion, $300 million has been allocated to Catholic and independent schools. This initiative will deliver much-needed funds to less well-off Catholic and independent schools in Page.”
