What’s happening on Anzac Day

Anzac Day commemorations in Ballina on Tuesday will begin with the Dawn Service at 5.30am at the RSL Memorial in Grant Street, after a 5am reveille.

There will be a pilgrimage to the East Ballina Cemetery, with a bus leaving the Ballina RSL Club at 8.45am for the 9.15am ceremony.

At 10.25am marchers will assemble at the old post office at the corner of Martin and River streets.

The march will begin at 10.40am and conclude at the RSL Memorial.

The Anzac Day commemorative service will begin at 10.55am at the RSL Memorial.

Ballina RSL Club will have traditional two-up games starting at 2pm. Most pubs also will have games.

In Alstonville, the Dawn Service assembly will be at 5.20am at the Elizabeth Anne Brown Park. The main service will assemble at 9.15am at the Bugden Avenue VC Memorial and march to the Elizabeth Anne Brown Park Memorial.

Road closures for Anzac Day:
Alstonville, 9am to 11am: Temporary road closure for vehicle access to the Bruxner Highway at Green Street, Wardell Road, Main Street west of the Bruxner Highway and South Street. A detour will be provided for highway traffic via High Street, Commercial Road and Green Street for the duration of the parade.

Ballina, 9am to 11am: Temporary road closure for vehicle access to River Street, from Martin Street, Cherry Street, Moon Street and Grant Street for the duration of the parade.

Ballina Shire Council requests that people obey all temporary signage.
