Blackfish, bream catches are improving
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann reports on the fishing scene this week …
Rhonda at Dave’s Bait Shop says there have been some fair catches of blackfish around the Prospect Bridge approach in North Creek, along with some inĀ the main river around the walls and working their way upstream. The farther up the river they are, the more essential it is to use green weed.
Bream are around in slowly increasing numbers with the odd quality fish, particularly for those fishing the late night high tides with gut and mullet baits. There have been a few around during the day for the lure tossers but smaller fish are more likely then.
The odd whiting up river but they’re tapering off now. A few jewfish turning up in the lower river, mainly at night on livies or cut herring, tailor or mullet.
Tailor are going fairly well from the breakwalls and the beaches although they’re a bit patchy if the water is a little rougher. Some of the northern headlands have been quite productive for larger tailor at night.
A few snapper and pearlies on the wider reefs but it’s been hard fishing them during the morning westerlies.
