State Budget provides $2.18 million for Ballina Hospital redevelopment
The 2006-07 NSW State Budget includes $2.18 million for the $6.949 million Ballina Hospital Rehabilitation Unit redevelopment.
“This project is the second stage of the overall development for transitional and rehabilitation care on the North Coast,” Health Minister John Hatzistergos, pictured, said.
“It involves the redesign and upgrading of Ballina Hospital to provide for the Rehabilitation and Day Therapy Units for the Richmond Valley.
“The St Vincent’s Hospital inpatient rehabilitation service will be relocated into new facilities on the Ballina Hospital campus.
“This will include a designated 24-bed rehabilitation unit, day therapy unit and ambulatory community-based rehabilitation services.”
The Minister said Ballina Hospital would be allocated an additional four permanent beds.
The 2006/07 budget also comprises funding to continue work on other major North Coast Area Health Service projects including:
- $14.2 million for the $38.457 million expansion of the existing mental health inpatient facility at Lismore Base Hospital
- $12.907 million for the development of the $19.247 million Port Macquarie Radiotherapy, an integrated cancer service providing two treatment bunkers and initially a single linear accelerator
- $12.789 million for the $20.153 million development of Coffs Harbour Radiotherapy, an integrated cancer service providing two treatment bunkers and initially a single linear accelerator
- $1.863 million to continue the development of a $7.798 million 20-bed Mental Health Unit for people with a mental illness requiring non-acute care in Coffs Harbour
- $1.051 million to continue the establishment of a $3.251 million Clinical Education and Research Institute.
- $935,000 for the $1.0 million Tweed Heads Fixed Breast Screen and Assessment site.
