Japan has a stockpile of whale meat — Sunday Telegraph
With the International Whaling Commission meeting this week and Japan tipped to have the numbers to bring about an end to the moratorium on commercial whaling, a report in last weekend’s Sunday Telegraph was alarming.
The report said that a new company had been set up in Tokyo to sell a mounting stockpile of whale meat.
The stockpile left over from Japan’s ’scientific’ whaling program was estimated at more than 3000 tonnes, the Sunday Telegraph reported.
It quoted a Japanese Greenpeace spokesperson as saying that whale meat ‘is not at all popular’ in Japan.
That seems to be the case, if such a large amount is stockpiled.
So this begs the question: Why bother with ’scientific’ whaling?
Think about that question as you watch these majestic mammals cruise past on their northern migration.
