‘Strapperoo’, a true soccer tragic
Well, the heart has finally stopped pumping, theĀ palms are no longer sweaty and it’s time to celebrate a great moment in sport — Australia has advanced to the knockout stage of the World Cup.
I’ve always enjoyed watching World Cup football, but have never been a ‘tragic’. It’s not that I didn’t appreciate the skills involved, it’s just that there was something missing.
I now know what that ’something’ was — a team to barrack for.
Now, as a previously casual fan, I’ve found myself getting totally wrapped up in the Socceroos’ games. We Australians who never got fully involved in the sport now have a reason to do so — our national team is now a world player.
However, I don’t think I’ll ever go to the lengths one Australian supporter has. Known as ‘Strapperoo’, this Brisbane architect is in Germany, complete with kangaroo suit which he wears just about everywhere.
But that’s not all: You can follow Strapperoo’s exploits at http://www.strapperoo.com/
Check it out — there’s plenty of pictures, and the bloke has a real sense of humour, too.
