Group One Under-16s in CRL final

The Group One Under-16 team has made it through to the final of the Country Rugby League Championships to be played at Wyong on Saturday, July 8.

Group One’s Under-15s and Under-16s played in the preliminary rounds of the Country Championships at Coffs Harbour on June 10 and 11.

The Under-15s won their first two games but were defeated in the third to put them back down into the trophy division, in which they lost their final game.

The Under-16s won all three games against some highly fancied opposition to go through to the final.

Graham Lees is the Under-16s coach and has organised the next training session on Tuesday at Ballina. Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright will attend, talk with the players and watch their training session.

“Their are players in the Under-16s being looked at by the Gold Coast Titans, with the aim of giving them a scholarship contract in the future. Some of these players may have already signed with the Titans,” Group spokesman Brian Rix said.

“Graham Lees is also the Group One Coaching Director and is looking for a positive outcome with the Under-16s to show the CRL the ability some of our Group One players have developed.”
