Weekend surf report
Variable winds tending to northerly today have messed up the swell a little, but with offshore winds forecast for the weekend, things should clean up nicely and provide nice beach breaks, providing the swell holds up.
Waves to 1.5m could be had today if you were prepared to put up with a slightly mushy swell.
The big surfing news over the next week comes in the form of the Rusty Gromfest, which will be held at Lennox Head from July 7-11.
It’s going to be another big event, with 342 surfers nominating.
Leading the entries are the talented pair of Owen Wright (Culburra) and Sally Fitzgibbons (Gerroa), who both come from the south coast of NSW. Both previous winners at this event, just two months ago they represented Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships in Brazil with Wright winning the boys and Fitzgibbons second in the girls.
Other top names include Garrett Parkes (Byron Bay), Dimity Stoyle (Sunshine Coast), Davey Cathels (Narrabeen), Darci Egan (Jan Juc), Dean Bowen (Gerroa), Kirby Wright (Culburra), and Page Hareb (New Zealand).
