Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann reports on the local fishing scene …
Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says there are improved numbers of bream moving around the beaches, headlands and working their way into the rivers with fish to 1.4kg starting to show.
Blackfish are coming on well with bag limits starting to show at last. They also seem to be switching to the more easily obtainable green weed instead of the black stuff.
A few whiting and flathead in North Creek and the lower reaches.
Good jew in the lower reaches and off the headlands and walls and they should improve further now that the seas are building.
Offshore, leatherjackets on the wider reefs are in plagues, with a few reds in the shallows on the close reefs trying to get away from them.
Salmon are showing up in numbers on the headlands and should infest the beaches when the sea goes back.
I’ve been away from Evans Head all week but with 1000+ fishos working the place over in the Evans Classic, they’re best left to themselves until it’s all over.
