Police issue warning over replica pistols
NSW Police has issued a warning to consumers about a replica pistol which has been determined to be a prohibited weapon.
Police say a large number of the pistols were located in shops both in the Sydney metropolitan area and on the Central Coast. Police have been in contact with the importer trying to establish what other stores in NSW, including any on the Northern Rivers, might have been provided with these replica pistols.
Commander of State Crime Command’s Firearms and Regulated Industries Crime Squad (FRICS), Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec, said any retailers with the item on sale or members of the public who had purchased the weapon should hand it to police immediately.
Police have seized more than 90 of the prohibited weapons from stores in Sydney and the Central Coast.
Detective Superintendent Kerlatec said: “I’d like to remind people that the possession or sale of a prohibited weapon in NSW is punishable by a sentence of up to 14 years’ imprisonment. However, anyone who purchased these items in good faith should contact their local police station and organise for them to be surrendered.”
Detective Superintendent Kerlatec also appealed to anyone with information about other outlets or suppliers selling the replicas to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
