Health service gives tips on avoiding the flu
The NSW Health Winter Preventable Illnesses Campaign aims to reinforce health messages to keep people well and avoid illnesses such as colds and flu this winter, the North Coast Area Health Service says.
“Public health experts estimate that each year at least about one in 10 people in NSW will get seasonal influenza – that’s at least 600,000 people.
“Across Australia, several hundred are likely to die.
“Stopping the spread of the disease through simple community education is an important Government public health imperative and reduces the impact of winter of the State’s busy network of public hospital emergency departments.”
NSW Health has developed an advertising campaign aimed at containing the nasties of flu. The advertising campaign includes one x 30 second radio commercial that focuses on the following messages:
Stop the spread
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue every time you cough or sneeze
Wash your hands regularly
Be prepared
Get a flu shot – it’s free if you are over
Remember that minor illnesses can be treated by a GP
Save the emergency department for emergencies.
