It’s finals time for Group One Junior Rugby League

Group One Junior Rugby League’s finals series starts this weekend, with minor and major semi-finals to be played at Woodlawn commencing at 9am on Saturday with the Under 10s, through to the under 16s playing at 2.40pm.

Group One Juniors publicity officer Brian Rix provided this rundown on the games:

In the Under 10s it looks like a battle between Kyogle and the Ballina Blue team for the title this year.

In the 11s Casino Maroon and Marist Blue are the two top teams.

In the 12s Ballina Blue seem to be hot favorites to take the title after going through the season undefeated.

In the 13s it will be a very close game between Ballina and Kyogle in the major semi.

In the 14s it will be a huge tussle between the three top teams, Marist Brothers, Ballina and South Grafton, with only three competition points separating first-placed Marist Brothers from third-placed South Grafton.

In the 15s it seems that Kyogle would be favourites as they have gone through the season undefeated, but the other three teams will be giving their all to try and compete with them through the end of year series.

In the 16s Byron Bay and South Grafton have had some great games this year and will be kept honest by Casino, with Ballina making up the final four.

The Ballina club is well represented with teams participating in every age group, Marist Brothers have five out of seven teams representing, Kyogle have four teams in the finals, with nearly all other clubs having representation

This result is great for junior league within the Group One area, showing how hard all the club committees and coaching staff are working.

The finals will be played at Evans Head on Saturday the 9th, games commencing with the Under 10s at noon and the Under 16s running on at 6.40pm.

The grand finals will be played at Ballina with games starting about 9am. Spectators are reminded that a $2 per adult gate charge will be applied to all the finals series.

“Group One JRL extends a warm invitation to all supporters, players and parents to watch our young stars play during these final series and reminds everyone of the National Codes of Conduct that will be enforced at all the games,” Rix said.
