Woman arrested over policeman’s assault in Nimbin
Northern Rivers police say they have arrested a Queensland woman over an attack on a policeman at Nimbin more than two years ago.
The officer was part of a covert operation at a local pub on Friday, 19 March 2004. During the evening, patrons identified the plainclothes sergeant and a number of other undercover officers as police.
The woman danced up to the sergeant and allegedly stabbed him in the arm with a syringe.
Following extensive inquiries, NSW police were granted an arrest warrant for a 29-year-old woman.
Detectives from Charters Towers, in Far North Queensland, arrested the woman on Wednesday morning (6 September), and conveyed her to the Townsville Watch House.
Lismore detectives flew to Townsville to interview the woman yesterday.
They successfully sought the woman’s extradition to New South Wales and she was ordered to appear in Lismore Local Court on Monday 20 November 2006.
The woman was granted conditional bail ahead of her court appearance for the offences of assault and being armed with an offensive instrument with intent to commit an indictable offence.
