Police bring Special Olympics torch run to Ballina
The Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is promoting next month’s Special Olympics National Games on the Gold Coast, will come to Ballina on Tuesday, September 26.
Eight New South Wales police officers are running with the torch from Sydney to Tweed Heads, where they will hand it over to their Queensland counterparts.
The Ballina section of the run commences at Moon Street on Tuesday at 9.30am followed by an official ceremony. The run then proceeds to Murwillumbah.
One of the runners, Alan Keen, said NSW police officers were strong supporters of the Special Olympic movement.
Special Olympics Tweed/Ballina Region has 14 competing athletes and four have been selected for the nationals. They are Suzie Phillips (ten pin bowling), Craig Read (golf), Brendan Borger (swimming) and Chris Hendry from Ballina (athletics).
