Ballina road rage incident; intent to murder charge alleged
A man will appear in court today charged in relation to a violent attack on another man at Ballina.
Police say the men were involved in a road rage incident on Angels Beach Drive at 8.50am yesterday (Monday 25 September).
The incident escalated to a physical confrontation between the pair, with the 42-year-old man allegedly striking the other man with a tomahawk to the side of the head, causing a deep wound and completely severing the top part of his ear, police said.
The alleged offender then fled the scene in a blue Suzuki four-wheel-drive.
A 46-year-old man was taken to Ballina Hospital for treatment. He remains in a stable condition.
Police from Richmond Local Area Command attended the scene and conducted inquiries.
Investigators arrested the alleged offender at a Lakeview Circuit residence a short time later.
He was taken to Ballina Police Station and subsequently charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder; and maliciously inflict grievous bodily harm with intent to do so
The man was refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court later today.
