Big crowd watches junior league semis

The Group One Junior Rugby League semi-finals at Woodlawn last Saturday drew a huge crowd which witnessed some great football and very tight games.
In the under 10s Ballina Blue were narrowly defeated by Kyogle 14-12. Ballina now play Lennox Head, who defeated Marist Blue 20-16.
Kyogle have progressed through to the grand final.

Ballina Shire wins tourism distinctions

Ballina Shire Council’s Tourism and Development Department has received two Awards of Distinction in the regional Northern Rivers Tourism Awards.
Ballina Shire Council entered two categories, one for significant festivals and events with Rivafest 2005. The other category was for media, where the Ballina Coast and Hinterland Visitor Guide was entered.
Both entries received Awards of Distinctions.

Seaweed has health benefits, says researcher

A natural seaweed extract – which might help protect against inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and arthritis and assist in the breakdown of dangerous blood clots – is being studied by Southern Cross University researchers.
