A boost for Lennox Head, Ballina Shire arts

Lennox Head residents have welcomed this week’s news that Ballina Shire Council has allocated funding of up to $5 million for a community centre.

The council will call tenders for a detailed design and documentation of the community centre.

However, the council will seek further input from Lennox Head residents to determine if they want the centre to be a meeting place where functions can be held, or a sporting complex.

The most likely site will be Williams Reserve, with the council looking at moving the Rural Fire Service headquarters. The playing field will remain intact.

There also was good news to come from this week’s meeting for art lovers, with the council indicating it wanted to refurbish the old council chambers and transfrom it into an art gallery.

The council meeting was told that funding is available.

The Ballina Arts and Craft Centre has been pushing hard for a gallery for the town.
