Bangalow to host songwriters music festival

Fans of original acoustic music should head to Bangalow for the inaugural Bangalow Pacific Songwriters Festival on Saturday, October 28.

“The inaugural festival is a celebration of the passion and dedication that goes into creating songs, and the first major national festival established to showcase the importance of songwriters,”spokeswoman Debbie Kruger said. “Established and aspiring tunesmiths or just fans of great melodies and lyrics are invited to Bangalow for this jam-packed day of playing, singing and listening, featuring 100 local, national and international songwriters and musicians.

“Highly respected country music singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer and founder of the legendary Dead Ringer Band, Bill Chambers, joins the headlining list of talent on the bill for a day of non-stop performances, workshops, forums and youth activities, all focusing on the magic of creating organic original music. He will star in the Country Comfort afternoon concert, as well as appearing at the evening gala Songwriters Showcase Concert at Bangalow’s A&I Hall.”

Other star performers include Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil, Hirst & Greene, Ghostwriters) and Tex Perkins (Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon, Tex Don & Charlie, Tex Perkins and The Dark Horses, TNT), who will also headline the Songwriters Showcase Concert, performing some of their best-known songs acoustically. Each will also take part in an Q&A session about their songwriting during the day.

“The North Coast region’s wealth of songwriting talent is well represented by leading talents such as Nimbin’s Diana Anaid, Murwillumbah’s Leigh James, Byron Bay’s Sarah McGregor and Sara Tindley and Lismore’s Luke Vassella,” Ms Kruger said.

“Well-loved local music personalities including ‘vocalite’ Mr Percival and folk legends Mook and Shanto are guaranteed crowd-pleasers, while workshops covering music publishing, marketing, multimedia and wealth creation will run through the day. A dedicated Youth Music venue will feature sessions on writing and mixing in genres such as hip-hop, with Youth Encouragement Awards presented in the afternoon.”
