Ballina Shire Council Commercial Development

Construction of Commercial Building 89 Tamar St
Closure of temporary car park (adjacent to the Ballina Post Office)

Ballina Shire Council has approved a contract with local firm Bennett Industries Pty. Ltd. for the construction of a commercial office building on Council owned land at 89 Tamar Street, Ballina (adjacent to the Ballina Post Office). The construction of this building continues Ballina Council’s long history of entrepreneurial developments that generate additional income streams for the residents of the Shire. By generating this additional income Council is able to maintain the average rate charged per property, as one of the lowest in the region.

Council has already confirmed a tenant for the building, although the tenant has asked that their details remain confidential until the building is completed. The construction of the building is expected to take 12 months and public car parking will be available on site when the building is finished.

The construction of this building means that the temporary car park currently located at 89 Tamar Street will be closed from Sunday 22 October, 2006.

Council has also recently signed a contract with leading international architectural firm Bligh Voller Nield Pty. Ltd. for the design and documentation of a multi storey car park and commercial / retail precinct on the existing Wigmore car park site in Tamar Street, Ballina. This work is still in a very preliminary phase and further information will be released when available.
