Tony Zann’s fishing report
NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report …
Adam at Dave’s Bait Shop says there have been lots of salmon and tailor from the walls and beaches.
Good flathead and whiting from Woodburn to Pimlico. A few bream in the river but they’re pretty small. School jew up around Wardell. Mud crabs in Emigrant Creek and North Creek.
A few snapper and pearl perch out on the wider reefs.
At Evans Head the northerly isn’t as bad as it has been but the strong wind on Thursday has turned over the bottom in close and it’s quite murky.
Before that the beaches held some nice whiting and dart and there should be a school jew prowling around on the good evening tide. Headlands have produced school jew along with the odd decent tailor.
A few days ago the river wasn’t too bad for whiting and flathead but the bigger tides appear to have shut them down a bit.
Not many boats have been heading offshore and those that have gone wide have come back shaking their heads at the very strong current that has dragged all the trap bubbles under.
In closer there has been the occasional squire and jew but not much else I’ve heard of.
