A week of fun for Ballina

It’s going to be a week of celebrations and festivities in Ballina next week, starting with the town’s 150th anniversary celebration dinner at the Ballina RSL Club on Monday night, followed up by Rivafest next weekend.

The theme of the 150th celebration night is based on the 1964 Miss Summerland competition.

Older Ballina residents will well remember the Miss Summerland competitions. They were held at Lighthouse Beach, and thousands would cram on to the beach to see the district’s young women vie for the title.

Meanwhile, Rivafest will feature a masquerade opera at Fawcett Park on Sunday, November 12, from 7.45pm. There will be a fireworks display at 8.30pm.

Other activities planned for the weekend include boat races on the Richmond, outrigger canoe races and heritage walks.

People attending the opera are asked to wear a mask, and if you don’t have one at home, consider attending one of the Mask Making workshops at Ballina Rivafest and prepare to wear your creation on the night.
