Cumbalum crash claims life of 18-year-old male

Police are investigating a fatal crash which claimed the life of an 18-year-old just north of Ballina yesterday.

About 7.30pm emergency services were called to an area of the Pacific Highway 7km north of Ballina in response to reports of a crash between a car and a truck.

It is believed that a Toyota Corona travelling in a northerly direction along the Pacific Highway and a semi-trailer travelling south collided near the intersection of Cumbalum Road.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Corona died at the scene.

The 45-year-old truck driver was taken Ballina Hospital suffering shock and bruising.

The Pacific Highway was closed for several hours.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command and Ballina Crash Investigation Unit are investigating.
