Federal Roads Minister to inspect Ballina Bypass work
Federal Minister for Local Government, Territories & Roads, Jim Lloyd, will today inspect initial works being carried out on the Ballina Bypass as a part of a tour of the entire length of the Pacific Highway.
Works for the $331 million, 12.4 kilometre bypass have commenced and due to the deep soft soils along the new bypass a new method called ‘vacuum consolidation’ is being used to stabilise the soil.
The Ballina Bypass is one of the first road projects in Australia to use this method.
Mr Lloyd will be joined by Federal Member for Page, Ian Causley, State Member for Ballina, Don Page, and Alan Brown, Chairman of the Ballina Bypass Action Group.
WHEN: 12:00pm TODAY Tuesday, 7th November 2006
WHERE: Intersection of the Pacific Highway and Teven Road.
