Youth charged over crash which killed four

Police have charged a youth with eight driving offences relating to the deaths of four teenagers north of Ballina last month.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on 22 October when a Holden Commodore sedan travelling south near Broken Head left the road and struck several trees before coming to rest on an embankment.

Two youths aged 16 and two youths aged 17, all from Goonellabah, died at the scene.

Yesterday, a 17-year-old youth, also from Goonellabah, was served with a court attendance notice for four counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and four counts of negligent driving occasioning death.

He is due to appear in Byron Bay Children’s Court on 22 December.
