Ballina ‘Rowing Boathouse’ Opening Day BBQ

The Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club ‘rowing boathouse’ will be officially opened by club patron, Don Page, on the 10th February 2007 from 10 am onwards and will include a BBQ lunch for a small fee.

Rowing on the Richmond

The spectacular Richmond River is a unique natural resource, which has a rich history in rowing from early last century. It is the intention of the club to re-establish rowing on the Richmond and to support and encourage the community and in particular the young to become actively involved in the sport of rowing.

Our priority for over two years has been to construct an enclosure to house and protect our existing boats and to provide an easy and safe means of getting these boats to and from the water without injury to person or boat. We can now move forward to expand our rowing members and start training competition teams for regional, state and hopefully national competition. In addition, there are the regular non-competitive rowers who have found an activity that works great for stress release and provides a passive workout for the muscle groups of the body. Ages 12 to 86 of any gender are welcome.

“Get to Know” rowing sessions for $20 on Sunday mornings, can be arranged most Sunday mornings between 8 am and 10 am.
The Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club fully utilises the Richmond River on most Sundays when you can row in the morning and sail in the afternoon. Rowing training can also be organised on weekday mornings. For more info contact Leslie Sanderson.

The Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club would like to thank:

  • NSW Dept of Sport and Recreation for the grant, which made the entire project possible;
  • RanBuild for persevering with shed designs and who finally came up with the four walls;
  • TURSA who have done an excellent job on the foundations and flooring;
  • Ballina Shire Council for supplying the materials for the floor;
  • The Slipway Hotel Ballina for allowing us to run a raffle every Friday night for the last 2.5 years and especially to its staff members who were always ready to help and who always made us very welcome; and last but not least all those people who bought raffle tickets. “

The Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club is located at 2 River Street Ballina (beside water slide)
If you would like to attend the ‘Rowing Boathouse Opening Day BBQ’ and enjoy a relaxing day on the river please RSVP to Leslie Sanderson.
