Bill Harrigan, Diana Anaid to be Australia Day ambassadors

Rugby league’s best referee Bill Harrigan and singer Diana Anaid will be Ballina Shire’s Australia Day ambassadors.

Mayor Philllip Silver announced today that both had accepted invitations to the day’s official ceremony, to be held from 4.30pm at Fawcett Park.

Anaid will perform during the festivities, and on Australia Day there also will be a fishing competition, face painting, rides, helicopter rides, river cruises, trike rides, sailing tours and charters. The finale will be a fireworks display from 8.30pm, presented by the Ballina RSL Club.

Anaid, who lives locally, came to prominence in 1997 when her song ‘I Go Off’ led to an ARIA nomination.

She is set to release her latest album, in March.

Bill Harrigan, recognised as the best referee in league even years after his retirement, is also a former police officer who served with the Tactical Response Group. He also worked with the Witness Security Unit.
