Ballina electorate sports groups get grants

Member for Ballina Don Page today announced that six local sporting projects had received a total of $48,285 in funding under the Department of Sport and Recreation’s 2006/07 Capital Assistance Program.

Mr Page said the popular sports grants scheme assisted with the establishment and enhancement of facilities across a range of recreational activities.

The successful recipients were:

· The Tintenbar-East Ballina Cricket Club received $4085 for the provision of a permanent sight screen and polyfabric cricket pitch cover

· Sailability Northern Rivers received $8000 to purchase an advanced level sailing skiff for people with disabilities

· Alstonville/Wollongbar Plateau Power Junior AFL received $1670 to purchase AFL goal posts

· The Ballina and District Equestrian Club received $3850 to upgrade the area fence to meet safety standards

· Ballina Touch Association received $10,680 to upgrade flood lighting of sporting fields

· Byron Bay Rugby League Football Club received $20,000 to improve the standard of field lighting.

“These grants are matched dollar for dollar by the individual sporting groups who have demonstrated their ability to financially contribute to their particular project,” Mr Page said.

“This funding will be well received by the successful applicants and keen sports people in the community.”
