School Liaison Police Officers get a new beat
Holidays are over and for returning high school students it will be their new School Liaison Police Officer who will greet them in 2007.
In 2006, the NSW Government announced the creation of 40 School Liaison Police, which has led to their launch at local high schools as of tomorrow.
NSW Police says that SLP will work with parents, students and teachers at high schools to address local issues. “In co-operation with the school community they will develop innovative approaches to addressing youth crime issues,” NSW Police spokesman for Crime Prevention, Assistant Commissioner Reg Mahoney, said.
“Trained in implementing crime prevention workshops and other educational programs, School Liaison Police will provide support to school principals and students alike.”
Assistant Commissioner Reg Mahoney sees the creation of the new School Liaison Police as a positive step to addressing youth issues before they manifest into more serious crime and anti-social behaviours.
“The launch of the School Liaison Police further indicates NSW Police commitment to working with the community to reduce crime and build a safer, greater NSW State,” he said.
School Liaison Police will operate at all government, catholic and independent schools throughout the State.
