Weekend surf report

flore.jpgThere’s a small swell from Evans Head to Ballina and Lennox Head today, but things could improve with the prospect of an increasing north-east swell, courtesy of some cyclone action in north Queensland this week.

South-east winds are forecast for the weekend, so as long as the swell picks up, there could be some improved conditions through until Monday.

Evans Head, Broken Head and Flat Rock are among the places suited by a north-east swell.

Beneficiaries of a jump in swell on the Sunshine Coast will be competitors in the Billabong Pro Junior Series at Maroochydore.

A slight drop in swell overnight has done little to hamper over 170 of the world’s best junior surfers on day one of the Billabong Pro Junior Series at Maroochydore.

Clean 1m waves greeted contestants for the opening rounds of the prestigious $13,000 contest, running for the first time ever on the Sunshine Coast and attracting talent from as far a field as France, Spain, New Zealand and South Africa.

Conditions fell of a bit through the week, but hopefully will improve over the weekend.

Lennox Head’s Ben Lowe was in action earlier in the week but ran into a red-hot French tour surfer, Jeremy Flores.

The 18-year-old displayed the same form which won him the World Qualifying Series (WQS) in 2006, amassing 14.83 points out of a possible 20.00 to comprehensively defeat Hugo Prasser (Pt Lookout), Sam Heatley (NSW) and Lowe.
