17,000 vehicles pass through Alstonville in 24 hours
More than 17,000 vehicles passed through Alstonville during the 24-hour traffic count that concluded at midday today, further highlighting the need for the Alstonville Bypass, Member for Ballina Don Page said today.
Mr Page said the traffic count eclipsed the NSW Labor Government’s 2004 figure of 14,143 vehicles per day, showing traffic flow through Alstonville is increasing.
“The Alstonville Bypass is a crucial piece of infrastructure that must be built as soon as possible and these traffic count figures further prove this,” Mr Page said.
“Yet under the NSW Labor Government this important project has been overlooked and delayed again and again.
“Former Premier Bob Carr promised in 2003 that the Alstonville Bypass would be built by the end of 2006. We are now in 2007 and to date no money has been allocated to its construction.
“In contrast, The Liberal/Nationals Coalition is fully committed to the construction of the Bypass and will fast-track its construction to ensure it is completed as soon as possible.
“The people of the Alstonville community have waited long enough for the bypass, it’s time the infrastructure needs of this area are recognised.”
