Weekend surf report for Ballina, Lennox Head
Surfing conditions in the Ballina-Lennox Head area should be pretty ordinary this weekend.
Today there’s a swell to a metre from the north-east, but it’s being ’slopped up’ by onshore winds, which are predicted to blow through until Monday.
Try the beaches early, especially those sheltered from a north-easterly.
Meanwhile, the pros are gearing up for the major event on the Australian circuit, the Quiksilver Gold Coast Pro. Reigning and eight-time Foster’s ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) will be back to defend both his World and Quiksilver Pro titles when competition commences next week.
Byron Bay’s Danny Wills will be among the competitors, and also will feature in a celebrity touch footy match with famous NRL players such as Andrew Johns, Mat Rogers, Preston Campbell and Mark Gasnier.
That’s Danny (left) pictured with Mat Rogers getting a few footy tips (or perhaps Mat is getting a few surfing tips from Danny, now that he’s moved back to the Gold Coast after switching from rugby union to league with the new Gold Coast Titans).
Another Byron Bay surfer, Garrett Parkes, will play in the match, which will be held on Sunday, March 4, at Snapper Rocks, starting about 4pm.
Meanwhile, a big well-done to the Le-Ba team which last weekend won the Queensland Jim Beach Surftag Final at Duranbah, beating the best Queensland has to offer, and qualifying for the national final in Sydney on March 2 and 3.
Here’s hoping the boys can put in a similar effort in Sydney.
