WorkCover, surf lifesaving in new partnership

Far North Coast branch lifesaving clubs soon may take part in a new program aimed at workplace safety in surf clubs.

The NSW Minister for Commerce, John Della Bosca, this week launched the program, the WorkCover ‘Safe Business is Good Business’ Partnership Program, with Surf Life Saving NSW at the Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club on the Central Coast.

Surf Life Saving NSW says the program will include a Safe Business Advisory Forum, and workplace advisory visits by WorkCover to enable WorkCover and the respective surf clubs to discuss specific safety issues and work through any areas which could need improvement.

“While Surf Life Saving NSW has always promoted strong occupational health and safety practices, our clubs and members have no doubt that this partnership with WorkCover will be a great benefit to the movement,” said Phil Vanny, Surf Life Saving NSW Chief Executive Officer.

“Central Coast Branch provides the perfect place to roll out this pilot program, and there has already been interest from around the State in expanding the program up and down the coastline.”

The program is being piloted on the Central Coast, however, it is expected the plan will then be rolled out to the other 10 branches in NSW to include all 129 clubs and their premises.
