Coalition promises $300 seniors concession allowance

Member for Ballina Don Page has announced that a NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition Government would provide each eligible self-funded retiree with a $300 NSW Seniors Concession Allowance.

Speaking at a meeting of the Association of Independent Retirees in Ballina, Mr Page said the allowance of $300 for singles and $600 for couples would be used to assist eligible self-funded retirees in meeting State Government fees and charges, such as motor vehicle registration, electricity and water bills, and council rates.

He said eligible self-funded retirees are those with a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card. The allowance would be CPI indexed annually.

“Self-funded retirees are important members of our community and deserve this added help in meeting their day-to-day financial needs,” Mr Page said.

“The Liberal/Nationals Coalition believes self-funded retirees should share in some of the welcome concessions already available to pensioners.

“The 122,000 eligible self-funded retirees in NSW have worked hard, paid taxes all their working lives and have provided for their own retirement.

“Yet many are not as well off as many in the community would think.

“Self-funded retirees should be rewarded by the community and if elected into State Government on March 24 this year the Liberal/Nationals Coalition will recognise this through the NSW Seniors Concession Allowance.”

Mr Page said it was important that self-funded retirees be able to remain independent as far as possible given the ageing profile of the nation’s population.
