Ballina Electorate Woman of the Year announced

Margaret Giles from Middle Pocket has been named 2007 Ballina Electorate Woman of the Year, Member for Ballina Don Page announced today.

Mr Page said Margaret is an extremely active and dedicated member of the Brunswick Valley community.

“Margaret Giles is a tireless supporter of the Brunswick Valley who has been heavily involved with community organisations for many years,” Mr Page said.

“Margaret has been a member of Quota International Brunswick Valley for the past 23 years and continues to be a key member of the organisational team behind the annual ‘Breakfast in the Park’ at Brunswick Heads each Australia Day.

“She has also been associated with Rotary and has twice been awarded the Rotary Club’s Community Service Award and in 2005 Margaret received the Paul Harris Fellowship for Community Service.

“In that same year, Margaret was also named the 2005 Byron Shire Citizen of the Year.

“In addition Margaret has dedicated countless hours each year for the last 10 years to the organisation of Mullumbimby’s Chincogan Fiesta.

“She has also sat on several Byron Shire Council committees, including the Centenary of Federation Committee, Australia Day Committee and the Centenary of the Shire Committee.

“Margaret Giles is a highly valued member of the Brunswick Valley community who has done so much for the people of that area.

“She is overwhelmingly deserving of being named the 2007 Ballina Electorate Woman of the Year.”
