Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the bigger tides have produced some nice whiting around Pimlico island the past few mornings with bloodworms again the best bait.
A few whiting and flathead in North Creek and along the Town Reach with a few small school jew around Wardell. Blackfish have gone a little quiet with only twos and threes at most of the usual haunts.
Tailor from the beaches and headlands have been the best movers this week with some quality fish to around 2kg being caught.
Plenty of mackerel outside now once we can get out there. If not go back up North Creek or Emigrant Creek for a few mud crabs.
At Evans Head there’s a fair sort of swell cracking on the beaches and with the big morning tides there’s not a lot of sand. But there are some hungry fish out there, I saw the remains of a fresh whiting of about 32cm on Airforce Beach this morning that had its head bitten off by something with rounded teeth – not a mackerel or a shark – so it might be worth a jewfish sortie on the evening tide if the swell drops.
I haven’t checked out the walls to see how the blackfish brigade have been going but there should be a few around with the sea up and a good morning rising tide. A few schools of slimy mackerel in the bays over the past few days at long last so with the water around 24° there should be a few mackerel around finally. River has a few whiting and plenty of very wary bream.
