Ballina to host Our Kids Day Out
The second Our Kids Day Out will be held this Sunday 15 April 15 from 9am–2pm at Missingham Bridge amphitheatre, Ballina.
The North Coast Area Health Service says the day promises lots of fun for the whole family with a range of live entertainment, including the Ronald MacDonald Show, NBN Big Dog, Reptile Awareness, the Lismore Larry Show, the Borderline Hotrodders and magical clowns …. to name just a few.
The Our Kids charity raises money for Lismore Base Hospital’s Children’s Ward. It holds this annual event to help kids from the broader Richmond Valley and further afield to receive specialist medical care locally.
Lismore Base Hospital is the region’s major referral hospital and cares for more than 10,000 children a year in its paediatric unit, Special Care Nursery and Emergency Department.
This year Our Kids has again invited the Emergency Services — Fire Brigade, Ambulance, Surf Life Saving and Police — to attend and display their equipment, including trucks, cars and boats, on a designated area at the park. Children can see and learn about the vital services that help keep the community safe and rescue people in trouble.
Our Kids will be presenting Children’s Ward Bravery Awards to recognise the courage of a local family whose young boys, Sebastian, Matthew and Nathaniel, have a rare disease called Ectodermal Dysplasia, which will cause longlife problems.
The boys and their parents, Tarja and Greg, manage this difficulty with a great sense of spirit, adventure and humour. Tarja has become involved with the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society and has created and published books about this disorder, with her children as the stars.
“This family is an inspiration and deserves to be centre stage at the Our Kids Day Out celebration,” said Our Kids Fundraising co-ordinator, Rebekka Battista.
“This day will be a great time for families to enjoy free entertainment and meet the Emergency Services. Bring the family and a picnic blanket and enjoy the day of free entertainment.”
