Get ready to laugh — comedy comes to the Ballina RSL

comedy.jpgMandy Nolan, the North Coast’s very own comic genious, outlines what’s in store at the new comedy nights being held at the Ballina RSL Club …

Remember the Big Gig? It introduced the country to stand-up comedy and literally brought comics like The Doug Anthony All Stars and Wendy Harmer to national awareness.

It created a comedy love affair that has continued ever since. Now Ballina is about to have its comedy hymen broken with its very own Big Gig, when the last Thursday of every month is comedy night at the Ballina RSL.

The very first Big Gig is Thursday 26 April and features the sensational Steve Allison, pictured. The Gold Coast Bulletin has called him ‘The Gold Coast’s favourite comic’.

Audience members, big and small attest the genius that is Steve Allison, whose simple philosophy ‘funny is funny’ resonates through every perfectly-timed gag, every succinct set-up.

Jimeoin cacked himself, Bob Hawke was more than impressed and Mike Whitney said: “Great line, I’m going to use that!”

Steve was born into show business. His parents (The Allisons) were Australia’s top sight act for over 30 years. His dad always said as long as you live under this roof you will do things my way. So Steve had to come home from school every day drunk, and tell mum a joke.

Steve Allison knows how to make people laugh. The confidence and experience earned from performing over a thousand live shows is clear. He is funny!

With a natural sense of humour and quick wit, Steve’s show is a well-crafted mix of snappy one-liners, hilarious stories, funny home truths and current topics.

It’s Aussie humour at its best. Standout performances in comedy clubs have led to countless corporate gigs, international tours and television appearances on The Footy Show and The Comedy Channel’s Headliners.

Steve Allison isn’t a yobbo. He’s a genuine larrikin with an individual show of fun and laughter.

He is joined by support act David Eastgate, who performed a show-stopping set at the Big Joke Festival’s Comedy Breakfast this year.

Insanely talented, Eastgate weaves story and experience into song and produces a sublimely funny and musically excellent show.

The Big Gig is a Mandy Nolan presentation. She’s the Big Girl who also bought you the Big Joke and has single-handedly created a humour empire here on the North Coast.

The first three Big Gig’s are free — to allow even the reticient and timid to become stand-up audience initiates.

Doors open at 7.45pm with an 8.30pm show. To secure a table, come early and enjoy some dinner from the Bistro. Thursday 26 April at Ballina RSL.
