New independent contractor laws to be explained

A free seminar in Lismore on May 1 will explain the new independent contractor laws to independent contractors, businesses and workers.

The seminar is being held by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and is one of a national series.

Topics covered by the seminar, which will run for about an hour from 8.30am, include:

Who do the new laws apply to?
Who is an independent contractor and who is an employee?
What is excluded?
Transitional arrangements
Unfair contracts
Sham contracts and how workers are protected.

register.

Those attending the seminar are asked to arrive by 8.15am for registration.
